Executive Secretary, Teacher, Volunteer. Carolyn "Lyn" Updike passed away peacefully on July 27th at the Beechwood Continuing Care Facility after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 79. Upon graduation from high school in Verona, NJ, she attended Bucknell University where she met her future husband, Peter. At Bucknell, she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. After marrying in 1959, they moved to Schenectady and then to Snyder, NY in 1963, where their family lived for 20 years. She was an Executive Secretary for Computer Task Group and Calspan Corp. After her husband was transferred to Rome, NY, they resided there for 20 years where Lyn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, served on several church boards and taught Sunday School. A member of Palm Twig, she volunteered at Rome Hospital and also did volunteer work for the performances in Rome of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. Upon retirement, they relocated to Williamsville, NY. Lyn enjoyed playing bridge, downhill and cross country skiing, golf, gardening, cooking, knitting, mystery books and all kinds of puzzles. She also enjoyed her volunteer work at the Williamsville United Methodist Church and spending time with her many close friends. Lyn was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers. She is survived by her husband, Peter and three children, Peter Fritz of Williamsville, NY, Todd Updike of Lafayette, CO and Christine Hart of Tarpon Springs, FL. Lyn also leaves four cherished grandchildren, Chelsea and Brecken Hart of Philadelphia, PA and Pittsburgh, PA and Aaron and Allison Updike of Lafayette, CO.
