Obituary
Obituary of Margaret Mary Daniels
DANIELS - Margaret M.
(nee Clark)
The angels and our Most Holy Redeemer
are rejoicing now that Margaret
is officially a member of the
heavenly choir and singing songs
of praise…and the occasional show
tune. She peacefully passed away on
a beautiful sunshine filled day-Sunday
February 21, 2016. She is preceded in
death by her loving parents, John and
Margaret (Neurohr) Clark; her guardian,
Daisy Neurohr, and her beloved
husband of 40 years, Richard Daniels
who passed away in 1990. She worked
at New York Telephone from 1945 until
1953 and made lasting friendships with
her girlfriends Rita, June and Edna.
They remained close friends for more
than 70 years. When Margaret and
Rita were 21, they once traveled to
New York City (it was the first time on
an airplane for both of them) and spent
an entire week seeing the sights, shopping
for and buying a fancy hat and riding
the rides at Coney Island. Just prior
to the birth of her first child, she left the
Telephone Company, and worked full
time (for the next 27 years) as a stayat-
home mom raising her four children:
Anne (late Gregory) Bielinski, David
(KayCee), Mark (late Christine) and
Paul (Jaime Vazquez) Daniels. Margaret
always encouraged her children
to "do your best" and two of her favorite
"momisms" included "You do what
you think is best" and "You use your
good judgement." In addition to raising
her children, she had many interests
which included square dancing (she
enjoyed this activity for many years
with her husband Richard). She was
especially fond of any type of physical
exercise and, roller skated (this is how
our parents originally met), ice skated,
played tennis and downhill skied (until
she was in her '70's) and swam at the
YMCA until last year. She had a lifelong
passion for sail boats and sailing.
On her 75th and 80th birthdays Margaret
treated her children and grandchildren
to a catamaran trip on the
Moondance in downtown Buffalo. Most
importantly, she truly enjoyed the arts
which included dancing, playing the
piano and singing. She loved to sing
and at one time she was a member of
St Gregory's choir, and more recently,
she sang with the Amherst Senior
Center Choral group. Margaret not
only loved her outside flower gardens
and was an active member of Garden
Club, but also, in the south window of
her dining room there was always a
variety of new plants sprouting from
various fruit seeds or plant cuttings.
At one time, she had been an active
member of Home Bureau, Ikebana
(Japanese flower arranging) and the
Erie County Cooperative Extension.
In addition, she was the original recycler
and composter; everything had
more than one use. As her children
were growing up, she enjoyed many
fun filled family vacations at Wasaga
Beach on Georgian Bay, Ontario, as
well as Lake Piseco and Eagle Bay in
the Adirondacks. When her husband
Richard became too ill to work, Margaret
reentered the work force in 1980
as an assistant cook for the Meals
on Wheels Program with the Town of
Amherst Senior Center and worked for
17 years before retiring in 1997. After
the death of her husband in 1990, she
also continued her travel trips to Japan,
Israel, Petra, Germany, Greece,
Norway and twice, she went sailing on
an active sailing ship (the Angelique).
For 10 years, Margaret also visited and
kindly cared for two elderly aunts who
each lived to be more than 100 years
old (Bertha and Adeline) until they
passed away. For almost 20 years,
she opened her house to International
Students who were completing their
dissertations for their PhD degrees
with the State University of New York
at Buffalo. Many of the students called
Margaret their American mom and
after they completed their studies and
graduated, she continued to receive
birthday, Christmas as well as cards of
appreciation. It was a positive and rewarding
experience for both our mother
and her many international students.
A few years ago, Margaret suffered a
stroke but after completing physical
rehabilitation and with assistance from
her children and aides (Cindy, Deb,
Carol, Deb, Charissa, Ashley, Deb and
others who cared for her) from Christian
Home Companions, she was able
to live in her house (that her husband
had built 58 years ago) for 4 more
years. Her house was one of the first
on Hopkins Rd (there were cows in
the pasture behind her back yard) with
an unobstructed view of the signal at
the corner of North Forest and Maple
(prox. 2 miles away). Although she
did not have the opportunity to attend
college, education was quite important
to Margaret, especially reading. She
is survived by and so very proud of her
5 amazing grandchildren: Nathan, Ian,
Sarah, Melanie and Seth Daniels, who
have all pursued a college education.
Her strong Catholic faith, (which was
formed and nourished by both her
guardian, Aunt Daisy Neurohr and her
grandmother Theresa Neurohr who
raised Margaret from an infant due to
the death of Margaret's mother) left a
lasting impression on anyone who met
her. She and her husband Richard
were founding members of St Gregory
the Great Parish and she was a
parishioner for more than 50 years.
Margaret will be dearly missed by not
only her family but also many relatives,
friends, and neighbors. The family will
be present and receive friends Friday
from 4-8 PM at BEACH TUYN FUNERAL
HOME INC., 5541 Main St.,
(at Cayuga Rd.), Williamsville. Final
prayers at the funeral home will be
said Saturday morning at 8:00 followed
by a Mass of Christian Burial in St.
Gregory the Great Church at 8:45 AM
(OR to stream online: www.stgregs.
