Obituary of Gladys M. Paxton
PAXTON - Gladys M.
Age 96, beloved wife of the late Thomas
E. Paxton; devoted mother, loving
and proud grandmother and greatgrandmother
passed away April 13,
2011 after a lengthy illness. She had
resided for many years at Presbyterian
Village at North Church before living at
St. Francis Home. Born Gladys Lyon,
she came to Buffalo in 1941 after living
most of her life in Cleveland, OH, where
she had graduated from the Spencerian
Business College. She had worked at
the University of Buffalo and the Community
College of the Finger Lakes.
Mrs. Paxton was a member of North
Presbyterian Church and the Amherst
Senior Center. She was a former member
of Surburans Womens Club of Amherst
where she had served as Treasurer
and Secretary in past years. When
her children were young, she was active
in Girl Scouting, PTA and worked on
many charitable fund raisers. She generously
gave of herself in many ways
over the years, both to the community
as well as to her family. Mrs. Paxton is
survived by her three children Thomas
L. (Jean) Paxton, Joan P. O'Malley and
Jean P. (Robert) Bloomer; six grandchildren
Kerrie Anne, Katie, Jennifer, Brian,
Todd and Sean; also surviving are sixteen
great-grandchildren Abby, Maisie,
Elizabeth, Maya, Sophie, Olivia, Emma,
Riley, Jamison, Hailey, Bethany, Andrew,
Tori, Zoe, Connor and Zachary;
she is also survived by two nephews
David and Richard York; she is pre-deceased
by her sister, Dorothy York and
brother Roy Lyon. The family would like
to thank her caregivers at St. Francis
Home and Hospice for their dedicated
and loving care. Private services were
held. Memorials may be made to a
charity of your choice.
