A tenth child, Ralph, died in infancy. A brother, Robert, lives in Beaumont, Tx. She is predeceased by a sister, Patricia. Also survived by ten grandchildren Grace Joly (nee Young) was born October 26, 1928 in Billings, Montana to Charles L. Young and Margaret Josephine (Farrell) Young. Grace graduated with a B. A. from the College of Great Falls in 1951. She worked as a school teacher and as a librarian at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC, and she married Ralph Philip Joly, Ph.D. of Ogdensburg, N.Y., in 1953. The family moved to Williamsville, N.Y. in 1962 and Ralph began a career position as associate professor of philosophy at Canisius College in Buffalo. Grace had a love of reading and a great talent for writing letters, both of which she practiced throughout her life. Immersing her children in books, she instilled in them a love of reading and writing that remains her legacy. Her friends and family marveled at her unflappable calm demeanor and peaceful acceptance of life's challenges. More than just being calm by nature, she seemed to radiate peace and tranquility into every situation throughout her life. Grace was active in the Roman Catholic Church. She volunteered at SS Peter and Paul School in Williamsville for many years as her children attended, organizing and running the school's Junior Great Books program. She served on the parish Bishop's Committee and as the parish pro-life representative. After her children had grown she pursued volunteer work as a reading teacher with Literacy Volunteers of America, as a reader to residents at St. Francis Nursing Home, Williamsville, as a Meals on Wheels volunteer, and through various activities of the St. Ann's Sodality of SS Peter and Paul Church. Following the death of husband Ralph in 1996, Grace lived with various of her children's families in Allentown, PA and Chicago, Il. until her peaceful passing with cookies baking and quiet guitar strumming at the home of Peter and Julie surrounded by her loved ones.
