Condolences
I have so many fond memories of your dad...his shrill whistle to call you all home for dinner, his new cooking skill making those tomato bacon biscuit ourderves, smorgasbord for the end of the week, Christmas dinners watching him learning to cook with my mom, ballet with Barb when my mom took us backstage for costume changes because dads weren't allowed, summer vacations when he brought all of you to our cottage in Canada, and then of course, his wonderful tribute speech to my dad at his memorial service and the funny anecdote about calling "George's hardware store " because of course the sump pump broke during a flood on a Sunday when everything was closed and your dad said "Hey George, you wouldn't happen to have an extra sump pump lying around?" And my dad said, "yes I do. I'll be right over ".I'll never forget how happy he was to introduce his new bride, Charlotte to all of us. She made him so so happy. I'm so sorry for your loss and it is especially hard during this time of quarantine when we can't all be together. Much love to all of you...my second family! I am keeping you in my heart!
Don will be missed by the people of North Presbyterian where he was greatly loved and admired. Our hearts go out to Charlotte, Rob and Jo, as well as Don's children Richard, Barbara and Scott and their families. Don was a brilliant, witty, inexhaustibly curious man who was always willing to share his time and gifts with anyone who asked. He was a role model of "faith seeking understanding," able to reconcile theology with his deep understanding of the natural world. I am profoundly grateful to have known him.
