GOSLIN - Henrietta Ann
(nee Kercher)
After being given Last Rites this past
August, Henrietta Anna Goslin at age
100 and 3 months asked "Why?" and
said she was not at all ready to go.
She sat with visitors in the sunny living
room of her home sharing stories
of days gone by..and oh what stories.
On Tuesday, December 11, 2012 just
short of her 101st Christmas, she was
ready. She died, resting comfortably at
home and joined her husband, Anthony
J. Goslin (1999); her sons, Anthony J.
Jr. (2009), Paul M. (1967) and David
G. (1984 - Mrs. Rosemarie Hanlon).
Left behind are her dear sister Loretta
G. Kercher; her loving daughters Ann
Goslin Bermingham (late Joseph D.
Jr.), Joan Goslin Simmons (Harvey F.)
and Mary Goslin Peterson (James R.);
dearly beloved grandchildren David,
Christopher, Sarah (Quinn) and Elizabeth
Bermingham; Michele (Rowan),
Laura (Vitanza), Andrew and Elizabeth
(Nunziato) Goslin and Patrick, Sarah
and Josh Peterson, as well as 16
great-grandchildren, several nieces
and nephews and cousins. A 1930
graduate of Sacred Heart Academy
and a graduate Registered Nurse she
worked in WNY for more than 40 years.
She briefly taught nursing at Syracuse
University and often said she would
have continued to do so if she had
known she would eventually have six
children. Her draft notice for World War
Two arrived 10 days after her wedding
at a time when married women
did not serve in the Armed Forces.
Instead she worked for the VNA, Millard
Fillmore, St. Francis Hospital, as
head nurse at Rosa Coplon Home, the
Nursing Registry and Buffalo General
Hospital, where she was head nurse
for their first post surgical intensive
care unit. All of this after surviving as
a child, along with her mother and sister,
the Great Spanish American Flue
Pandemic of 1918 in which fifty million
people, including her father, died. She
was raised by her mother and maternal
grandparents Gregor and Anna Benz.
Gregor Benz was the chief designer
and longtime foreman of Hersee Furniture
in Buffalo and first cousin to his
childhood friend, Karl Benz, inventor
of the automobile (Mercedes Benz).
Mrs. Goslin was a Gold Star Mother,
her son Paul M. Goslin died in January
1967 in the South China Sea during the
Vietnam War. Paul Goslin was among
the first casualties from the Town of
Amherst. She was an original member
of the Red Jacket Ski Club and a
member of the Buffalo Museum of Science
Roosevelt Field Club. A longtime
athlete, she played tennis for years
with her close personal friend the late
Pius A. Benincasa, Auxiliary Bishop
of Buffalo. She continued to ski and
swim into her nineties. She served as
the first president of The Mothers Club
of Saint Peter and Paul Grade School
in Williamsville, an organization she
helped found. A lifetime member of the
Ladies of Charity, St. Ann's Sodality
and a member of Saints Peter and Paul
Church in Williamsville since 1943. She
contributed to many charities throughout
her life. Those of us left behind join
her in profound appreciation of Hospice
