Obituary of Dorothy Margaret Gillooly

Dorothy Margaret Damm Gillooly died of natural causes Friday May 5th at Seneca Health Care Center in West Seneca NY. She was 97. She was the wife of the late John F. Gillooly who died in 1999. Her brothers Henry Damm of Schenectady NY and Phillip Damm of Ambler Pa. predeceased her. She is survived by her children Marilyn(Peter) Borer of Napes Florida, Gregory (Jessica) Gillooly of Los Angeles Ca. and Diane (Allan) Ryle of Edgewood Ky.; by grandchildren Brian and Gretchen Borer, Heather Gillooly, and Megan and Sarah Ryle; great grandchildren Maggie and Lucy Montiegel. Dorothy was born on August 5th 1919 in Albany NY to Edward and Mary Damm. In her early childhood the family moved from Albany to Buffalo where she lived for the rest of her life. She graduated high school from Holy Angeles Academy and stayed in regular contact with her classmates throughout her life. After high school she attended Bryant and Stratton College where she studied to be a secretary. She took a job at radio station WBNY where she met John Gillooly whose on-air name was John Gill. The couple married in 1943. Mrs. Gillooly dedicated her adult life to being a loving wife and mother to her three children. She enjoyed being a homemaker and prided herself on her cooking, baking, and sewing skills. She was a devout member of SS Peter and Paul RC Church in Williamsville for over 50 years. She was active in parish life for many of those years. Since 2011 she lived at Seneca Healthcare Center in West Seneca NY where she was lovingly cared for by the staff there. Shortly before her death she remarked to her son that she had lived a fortunate and blessed life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday May 20th at SS Peter and Paul in Williamsville. Funeral arrangements are through Beach Tuyn Funeral Home in Williamsville NY. There is a visitation period at Beach Tuyn from 2 to 6pm on Friday May 19th, where family members will be in attendance. All are invited.
